i walk, now and then
to the store -
if to anywhere at all -
and my eyes, too
like to wander.
i know the signs well.
"no loitering"
no problem.
"clean up after your pets"
illustrated, of course.
"keep out"
keep moving.
"smile!"
"you're on camera"
i place my goods on the counter.
"bathrooms are for paying customers only"
on the walk home, i wonder
how many dreamers
set out with a dollar in their pocket
only to trade everything
for a chance to piss
